Golden Bones began with a fracture. A broken shoulder stopped my painting for several months. Lying still, I found myself imagining my bone healing with gold running through the break — the way a kintsugi potter repairs cracked ceramics, not concealing the damage but tracing it in gold, making the fractured place the most luminous part of the object. My body had enacted the philosophy before my mind named it.

The series that grew from that stillness is one of figurative paintings in which the human figure carries light at its joints and fractures. The figures are specific people and also archetypes — the survivor, the one who has come through. The settings are dreamlike, in the spirit of the Symbolists. Some works incorporate gold and other precious leaf, used with restraint: not as decoration, but as a structural mark — identifying where the break was, and making that place the most alive part of the painting.
