Clarissa Shanahan paints the human figure — in oil, from life, with the patience of the classical tradition and the symbolic weight of myth.
Her current body of work, Golden Bones, takes its central image from kintsugi: the philosophy that the most fractured place becomes the most radiant. The paintings are figurative and specific - real people drawn from dream-life, in the spirit of the Symbolists.
Shanahan is based in the south of England.
